Telnet option negotiation is not the responsibility of the Winsock
implementation, it is the responsibility of the Telnet implementation, which
will be in the terminal emulator.  Winsock provides TCP, not Telnet.

There could be two solutions to your problem:

1) Check if your .xsession tries to load another window manager, such as twm
or any equivalent. In other words if there is a window manager in the .xsession
file try removing it and then the windows should stay open.

2) Another way is using the xwindemo without windows being the window manager.
Switch the window-mode in Xwindemo to single window and leave the window
manager in the .xsession file.

In my original post I said that I tried Peter's TELW and Reflection 4.1
with Trumpet WinSock and they both fail. I tried Reflection 4.0 with
WRQ's own TCP/IP (without winsock) and it works well.

The problem is only with the old HP-UX 7.0 machine, several others work
well.
